Musee Memorial de la Bataille de Normandie - Just a few minutes from the D-Day landing beaches, the Bayeux Battle of Normandy Memorial Museum retraces the 77 days of fighting which opposed Allied forces and the German army on the soil of Normandy in the aftermath of 6 June 1944. The chronology of events, set out into 2 sectors and 17 sub-sectors based on a wealth of museum material (weapons, uniforms, heavy equipment...) presented in 2300 m² of exhibition space, gives the visitor a good idea of the vast war effort involved in this decisive battle to restore peace in Europe.
Memorial du General De Gaulle - It is in the very fine "Logis du Gouverneur", dating from the Renaissance (late 15th century), 100 m from the Sub-Prefecture building, the headquarters of the first authorities of liberated France in 1944, that General de Gaulle's five en-counters with Bayeux are recalled. Two of those encounters were to mark the history of France: 14 June 1944, and 6 June 1946.
Musee Memorial d'Omaha Beach - The museum is in the US sector near Omaha Beach, known as "Bloody Omaha". It covers every phase of the landings from the period of occupation up until D-Day. An exhibition of World War II weapons, uniforms and military vehicles and numerous photos offer a graphic picture of the Omaha landing. All explanations are given in French and English. On the car park there is a US Sherman tank, a 155 mm long Tom gun (unique in Normandy) and an LCVP landing craft.
Musee de la Bataille de Tilly sur Seulles - After the battle was over, Tilly had been reduced to a heap of rubble. In the village, which had been captured and recaptured 23 times, one person in ten had been killed. The museum recalls this battle, which raged from 7 to 19 June 1944.
Musee des Rangers - This museum tells the story of a crack American unit which trained for a special D-Day assignment in 1944: the assault and capture of the Pointe du Hoc. With the help of texts in FR & GB and plenty of photographs, the visitor is taken easily through the story of the Rangers. The actions of Colonel Rudder and his men are described with a wealth of detail. The visit includes an exhibition of documents, objects and personal belongings of these glorious fighting troops and ends with an 18 min. video show.
