Tapisserie de Bayeux - A unique masterpiece in the world, the Bayeux Tapestry is actually an embroidery, done in wool on linen canvas during the IIth century. 70 m long and 50 cm high, it recounts, simply but with a wealth of detail, how and why William the Conqueror achieved the conquest of England on 14 October 1066. Unaccompanied visit to the exhibition and audiovisual rooms and Tapestry visit with earphone (II languages simul-taneously).
Cathedrale Notre-Dame & Vieux Bayeux - Bayeux has preserved the old historic centre with its mediaeval structure. Its outstanding architectural heritage emerged unscathed from the Allied bombing raids of 1944. Solemnly consecrated on 14 July 1077, in the presence of William, Duke of Normandy and king of England, the cathedral later came in for all kinds of extensions and embellishments from the 12th to the 15th century.
