This city played an important part in the history of Joan of Arc, indeed, it was here that she was condemned to being burnt at the stake after the non-intervention of the archbishop Cochon, an English sympathiser. The city is a gem of Norman architecture, and to this bears witness the magnificent cathedral of Saint Maclou. After Paris, in importance, Rouen is considered to be the second city of the Kingdom of France.
