Evian is situated north of the department of Haute-Savoie, on the south bank of Lake Geneva, opposite Switzerland. Castle of Ripaille: (Thonon - 8 km) This 15th century château, in its fine lakeside setting, was once the residence of Amédée VIII, the first Duke of Savoy. Guided tours from February to November. Ripaille forest and arboretum.
Lake Geneva museum of traditions and boats: (Saint-Gingolph - 20 km) located in the Swiss part of the village, in the château building, which dates from 1588, this museum provides a view of local life in bygone times, dominated by forestry activities and the Lake Geneva boatyard.
Yvoire, medieval village: absolutely not be missed is the medieval town of Yvoire, described as "one of France's most beautiful villages", its streets and fishermen's cottages garlanded with flowers, the château and the extraordinary garden "of the five senses". The former vegetable garden of the château, restored in the style of the walled gardens of the Middle Ages: a vegetable maze on the theme of the five senses, a cloister of the "simples" (aromatic and medicinal plants), rose patchwork, old fruit trees.
Thollon-les-Mémises and its panoramic view of Lake Geneva: departing from the winter and summer sports resort, 15 minutes from Evian, a cable car will carry you, within a few minutes, up to the Mémises, where an exceptional panorama over the lake awaits you, along with numerous hiking paths.
Vallée de Bernex: 10 mantes from Evian, Bernex, in the shadow of the Dent-d'Oche (2,221 m) is the perfect example of a Haute-Savoie valley. The perfect setting for walks and hikes, it is also a fine family winter sports resort.
